Week 38

 Dear Parents and Students,

The year has been flying by, and it is incredible to think that we only have one full week left in the school year!

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have completed Topic 19, and we had our topic test and performance assessment on Tuesday. We have already begun Topic 20 – our final topic for the year – which is dedicated to probability, and how to represent it as fractions, graphs and tree diagrams. This is a short topic, and we will complete it early next week, with the topic test to take place on Tuesday.

Literacy Workshop

Although we finished reading Danny the Champion of the World last week, we chose some of the ethical questions arising from the story, and after discussing them, we selected one for debate. We then divided into two teams, and spent two lessons constructing arguments and counter-arguments, and then presented our ideas in a style similar to a formal debate. We also finished our final unit of English grammar, which we will review next week.

Science

We extended our study of how the eye works this week by adding an iris and smaller pupil to our working model. We then worked in pairs to observe how the iris and pupil function to affect what we see.

Social Studies

We presented our Regions projects on Wednesday and Thursday. Not only did everyone do a great job in researching and compiling the information for our respective regions, but we have also learned some new skills along the way, which should prove to be very useful in future.

Other important information

As part of a special project, on Friday, 9th June, both Grade 3 classes will be selling snacks and drinks to all elementary students using a pre-order and delivery service. Order forms, including the price of each product, have been sent home. If you would like to participate by buying one or more items, students can return the order form and money next week. The deadline for order forms to be returned is Wednesday, 7th June, and Grade 3 students will then prepare and deliver orders next Friday, 9th June.

I hope everyone enjoys your weekend, and I’ll see you all Monday!

Dates to remember:

Wed Jun 14: Final assembly (students only)

Thu Jun 15: Last day of school (half day)
