Week 37

 Dear Parents and Students,

I hope you all enjoyed the extended weekend. We were lucky to enjoy some more fine weather before another deluge reached us on Monday evening! In Grade 4, we got straight back to work on Tuesday, and we have had another busy and productive week, finishing with our Art Exhibition and monthly assembly. Thank you to all parents who were able to attend. It is great to be able to share time at school with parents once again.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have almost completed Topic 19, and we now know the difference between line and

rotational symmetry, and the different ways figures can be changed while remaining

congruent. We will review the topic early next week, with our topic test to take place on Tuesday.

Literacy Workshop

We have almost completed our last grammar unit, with just a few more lessons to take place next week. We have been learning the difference between adverbs and prepositions, and how to use them in a sentence. We finished reading Danny the Champion of the World. This story has posed some ethical questions to which we have had some interesting responses. We will continue with these discussions next week.

Science

The fun has continued during our Life Science studies this week, as we designed a working model of an eye. So far, we have investigated how the lens of the eye refracts and projects light to the retina, from which our brain receives the signals to allow us to see. We then applied our findings to our case study. We will continue this investigation next week, as we modify our models to see how the pupil and iris work together.

Social Studies

We continued with our research and development of our Regions presentations, including a dedicated session in the computer lab in which we were able to collaborate together in real time. We have only a few more days left before our presentations, which will take place next Wednesday and Thursday.

Other important information

As we approach the end of the semester, our list of special dates is shrinking! Details regarding the final week of school will be available closer to the date.
