Week 36

 Dear Parents and Students,

We have all completed our MAP testing, and we can now look forward to a three-day weekend starting on Saturday. We have also been busy in the classroom, as detailed below.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We completed Topic 18 this week, and the test took place on Thursday. Although it is a short topic, it is a very important one, as it sets the foundations for the next stage of algebraic problem solving to be studied in the near future. On Thursday, we also began Topic 19, which focuses on transformations, congruence, and symmetry.

Literacy Workshop

We have completed our grammar unit dedicated to pronouns, and begun our final grammar unit of the year, which is focused on adverbs and prepositions. We have continued reading Danny the Champion of the World, and we are due to finish the story next week.

Science

We moved away from the books in Science this week, and enjoyed a practical assignment in which we built a model of a human finger. Using the model, we were able to investigate how muscles, tendons, and bones combine to give us form and movement. We then compared this functionality to that of an owl’s talon. An owl and how it catches its prey is our case study for the next few weeks. Next week, we will be studying the ways in which this predator is able to locate and move towards its quarry.

Social Studies

Research and development of our Regions presentations continue, and we are on-track to present the week after next. It is great to see everyone working so well together and developing valuable skills.

Other important information

As mentioned above, we have a three-day weekend to enjoy, as Monday will be our mid-semester break, and the school is closed for the day. I hope everyone enjoys the extra day off, and I’ll see you next Tuesday!
