Week 27

Dear Parents and Students,

It was another busy week, punctuated with our Pottery session on Wednesday. Everyone enjoyed releasing our creative sides, and there were some very impressive works of art produced. Photos of the morning can be found via the link at the bottom of this post.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have been working our way through Topic 14, and learning some very useful formulas. We have also discussed the importance of understanding the formulas we learn, and not simply memorising them. We will complete our studies of area and perimeter next week, with our topic test to take place on Tuesday.

Literacy Workshop

We completed our Writing Instructions assignment this week, and enjoyed watching one

another’s instructional presentations on Thursday. We began a new unit in Grammar this week, this time dedicated to capitalisation and punctuation. We will continue with this unit for the next few weeks. Next week, we will also begin reading Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Science

Science Fair projects are beginning to take shape, as we establish our hypotheses and

finalise our planning for experimentation. Regular conferences each week will be held to

make sure everyone is on track. In the classroom, we are exploring different types of energy, and this will continue next week.

Social Studies

Our unit test for the Southeast took place on Thursday, and next week, we will begin our

investigations of the American Midwest. We will start with a focus on the region’s geography.
