Week 26

Dear Parents and Students,

I trust everyone enjoyed the long weekend and the beautiful change in weather! It didn’t take us long to get back into the swing of things, and we have had a very productive three-day week.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have begun Topic 14, which is a change of pace, as it is dedicated to the study of perimeter and area. We will continue with this topic throughout next week, with the topic test to take place the following Tuesday.

Literacy Workshop

We have begun planning and drafting our next writing assignment - Writing Instructions. Next week, we will be revising, proofreading, and publishing our instructions. To present

our instructions, students can choose to present live in the classroom or to create a slideshow or short video, which will be shared online and presented before the class next

week. Directions for creating the video have been sent home, along with rubrics for both

the writing and presentation assignments. Presentations will take place next Thursday.

Science

We have been exploring thermal energy this week, including the different ways thermal energy travels and transfers. We have enjoyed two separate practical assignments to further explore these concepts. We have also been planning and discussing our Science Fair topics and planning our preliminary research.

Social Studies

We have completed our studies of the American Southeast, and we have been reviewing

what we have learned. We will have a final review lesson on Tuesday, and our open-book unit test will take place on Thursday.
