Dear Parents and Students,
We have had some chilly days this week, but that hasn’t distracted us in Grade 4. We have been very busy, as usual, and we are all excited in anticipation of Literacy Week, coming up next week.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We completed our Benchmark and Cumulative tests this week, covering everything we have learned this year to date. We have also begun Topic 13, which continues our study of decimals, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication of decimals and whole numbers. We will complete Topic 13 next week, with the test to take place on Friday.
Literacy Workshop
We read a biography of Gloria Estefan this week, and discussed why she might be
considered a hero. We also spent time drafting and revising our Book Promotion projects. Next week will be full of activities for Literacy Week. In addition, we will be completing our Book Review projects early in the week, before presenting them to the rest of the class on Thursday.
Science
We have almost completed our study of electricity, and next week we will be reviewing all we have learned. We are still in the preliminary stages of our Science Fair projects, and we held conferences on Friday to discuss our progress.
Social Studies
We have completed our studies of Ports of the Southeast, and we reviewed the chapter early this week. We are now learning what the Southeast is like today, with our attention this week focused on the Atlantic States. We will switch to the Gulf Coast States next week. We also have a special lesson for Literacy Week, in which we will learn about a very clever Native American girl and her father.
