Dear Parents and Students,
It has been a peculiar week, but the HIS team has rallied together to make sure that Grade 4’s productivity and progress hasn’t skipped a beat. Special thanks to Mr Meister, Mrs Ferreira, Mr Cotter, and all other teachers and staff who have done such a wonderful job of ensuring that Grade 4 remains productive and on track.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We have almost completed Topic 10, which has shown us how to find equivalent fractions and fractions in simplest forms, and how to convert improper fractions into mixed numbers and back again. We will spend Monday’s lesson reviewing the topic before the Topic Test onTuesday.
Literacy Workshop
After reading Heat Wave! last week and learning all about hyperbole, we have spent this
week planning, drafting, and publishing our own tall tales, complete with hyperbole,
exaggeration, and far-fetched accounts of true and made-up stories. Next week, we will be reading The Last Dragon, which will follow our Chinese theme for the week.
Science
Our chain reaction machines project was put on hold this week, and we dedicated our time to learning about speed, velocity, and how to calculate average speed. We will return to designing our chain reaction machines on Monday.
Social Studies
We have completed our study of the American Northeast, and spent the final few lessons this week reviewing what we have learned. We will spend a little more time reviewing the unit on Monday and Tuesday, before we sit an open-book test on Thursday. Our next unit will be dedicated to the Southeastern States of the USA.
