Week 16

 Dear Parents and Students,

It’s hard to believe we've already reached December, and 2022 is in its final month. With our Christmas/Winter performance just around the corner, we are all anticipating the upcoming winter break. This hasn’t hindered our productivity though, and we have completed yet another busy week.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We reviewed Topic 8 on Monday, and our test took place on Tuesday. We also had a benchmark test on Wednesday, and a cumulative test on Thursday. These tests required no studying, as they are designed to gauge our retention rate of all topics covered so far this year. We have already begun Topic 9, which focuses on geometry, and we will continue with this throughout next week.

Literacy Workshop

This week, we read Cendrillon, which is an alternative version of Cinderella. Some more insightful discussions were had during our Reading Circles, and we even learned a little French! Next week, we will begin drafting our own alternative fairy tales. After publishing them, we will enjoy reading them as part of our publishing party/winter celebrations.

Science

We began our next unit, dedicated to Physical Science. We started our explorations by

observing a complex chain-reaction machine, and identifying where the energy might be

stored, transferred, and released. We then demonstrated other ways of storing, transferring, and releasing energy by building models of a carnival ride. We will continue

our study of energy next week.

Social Studies

We completed our study of the geography of the American Northeast by completing a design for a map of the region. We also began investigating early populations in the area. We will continue with our study of Early People next week.

Other important information

Our Christmas/Winter performance will be taking place next Friday, and we are excited to

be welcoming parents along to see the show. Everyone has been working hard preparing for the performances, and Mrs Johnson has done a wonderful job directing each number.
