Week 11

 Dear Parents and Students,

We’ve had another full week, complete with oral presentations and the conclusion of the MAP testing. We also had a special treat to finish the week with the Secondary Department holding their Halloween Carnival on Friday afternoon.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have finished Topic 6, which was a very short topic dedicated to algebra, and we held

the topic test on Friday. We will begin Topic 7 next week. This is another short topic that reviews and extends what we know about multiplication.

Literacy Workshop

This week, we spent more time in our Reading Circles, and our story of the week was

Boss of the Plains. The conversations and collaborative work are really beginning to develop, and each group is becoming less reliant on guided instruction. Next week, we will begin planning and drafting for our Narrative Story. This process will occupy the best part of the next two weeks, and we will finish the assignment with a publishing party on Friday, 11th November.

Science

We have continued our studies of Earth’s surface changes, this week focussing on landslides. Next week, we will conclude our investigations of the mysteries of the Ash Falls fossil beds, and then review what we know about rapid changes of Earth’s surface.

Social Studies

Much of our week was spent preparing for and giving our presentations about Symbols of

Patriotism. Thank you to everyone for the hard work. It was certainly an informative few days, and everyone should be proud of your presentations. Next week, we will return to

our study of economy and citizenship.

Other important information

Report cards were sent home on Wednesday. Please contact the school if you didn’t

receive yours. Our Halloween/Dress up day will take place on Monday, but unfortunately, according to current Covid restrictions, parents will not be able to attend. A live feed will be made available (details will be sent soon), and I will make sure to post pictures of the day on the blog next week. Please note that in the event of poor weather, the performances will still take place in the auditorium.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you all dressed up and ready to perform on Monday!
